The Interaction (Physics) Workshop delivered by Dr. Suhadi and Ravensky Yurianty Pratiwi was conducted as part of the Sustaining Southeast Asian Teacher Education Programme (SEA-TEP) under the Training of Trainers scheme. This initiative is an international collaboration involving SEAMEO STEM-ED (Thailand), SEAMEO SEAMOLEC (Indonesia), SEAMEO RECSAM (Malaysia), SEAMEO INNOTECH (Philippines), and Caravan Knowledge (Kazakhstan).
The workshop provided a comprehensive learning experience designed to strengthen the pedagogical competencies of teacher educators across Southeast Asia. Unlike traditional physics instruction, this training emphasized a holistic integration of Three-Dimensional Learning (3D Learning), Scientific Explanation, and Scientific Modeling, all of which are fundamental to high-quality STEM education.
Participants were guided through the full sequence of Unit 1–4 within the Interaction (Physics) Module, which includes:
Unit 1: Exploring Forces and Interactions – engaging teachers with phenomena-driven learning and opportunities to elicit students’ initial ideas.
Unit 2: Developing and Refining Models – using modeling practices to represent particle-level interactions and macroscopic effects.
Unit 3: Constructing Scientific Explanations – supporting evidence-based reasoning using Claim–Evidence–Reasoning (CER) frameworks aligned with authentic scientific practices.
Unit 4: Application and Transfer of Learning – encouraging teachers to apply models and explanations to new scenarios to reinforce conceptual understanding and promote scientific thinking.
Through discussions, hands-on activities, and structured reflection, the workshop empowered participants to design meaningful learning experiences that reflect how scientists investigate phenomena, build and revise models, and construct explanations grounded in evidence.
The workshop not only strengthened conceptual mastery but also promoted sustainable regional collaboration in STEM teacher education, reinforcing SEA-TEP’s mission to cultivate innovative, research-informed instructional practices across Southeast Asia.
